Behind the Veil

Izzy Hudgins and I were at Savannah Magazine’s Behind the Veil Event on Sunday, February 12th at the Jepson Museum in historic Downtown Savannah. Although it was unseasonably chilly, our bright decor warmed lots of hearts.

Big thank you to Bridal Mart of Savannah for loaning me a dress to display my sash. Super big thanks to Izzy Hudgins for the great images and great company at the event!

Wedding Countdown: 48 Days!!

My wedding is less than two months away! Here’s a little sneak peak of some of my inspiration and some of the things I’m making for the big day. And if you’re in Savannah, come by the Jepson for Savannah Magazine’s Bridal Show. I’ll be there with even more wedding creations. Today (February 12th) from noon-5.

Martha Stewart’s feature on sheer sherbet colors got the ideas flowing. We are having a cheerful, spring wedding in beautiful Savannah, Georgia. I was hoping the azaleas would join us, but all this warm weather has got them blooming now! Oh well, as long as our nuclear summer doesn’t arrive early too ;o)

I’ve made some neckties. The groom’s is on the left followed by the best man, our Dad’s, his Grandfather and Brother-in-Law.

I appliqued our table numbers, embroidered the outline, then stretched them over little canvases.

Other projects on the list: vests for the nephews, dresses for the nieces (there are only 2 of each), a wedding arch, Georgia Tech suspenders for the groom, and trivia booklet escort cards.

Tea Time

Local photographer, Izzy Hudgins, and I spent a lovely evening at the home of Lynn Combe admiring her extensive collection of antique china. Lynn is the owner of Lilian’s China – Vintage Rentals. She rents fabulous vintage china for that eclectic mix-and-match place setting look. We were immediately inspired. Who wouldn’t be? So with much pre-planning, and lots of breath holding (you’ll see the arch and understand), we put this shoot together with a couple other Savannah artisans.

The patterns we chose were some of the oldest and most valuable as well as some of the more kitschy patterns. Just shows there are no rules when mixing your favorite things. If you like them, it will work.

The birdcage headband and sash were created just for the shoot. Satin and velvet ribbon make the sash pop.

I had a little steampunk fun with the boutonniere. Couldn’t resist the little gears.

The yellow teacup on the left is by far my favorite. Delicate little gold feet, an iridescent finish, and textured bowl make it oh so special.

Birds of a Feather

Georgia bride, Gabby sent me this image of her adorable invitation:

She and her fiance are going for a vintage look and needed something to go with their charcoal grey suits. After emailing swatches back and forth we came up with a really fun palette of patterns.

A vest for the groom. Seersucker front with lightweight cotton back and lining.

The bowties are reversible.

I love how a little bit of the lining fabric peeks out when they are tied.

Neckties for Dads and ushers.

These great accessories for her groom and all his men left the studio yesterday for a wedding at the end of February. I’ll post images of them in action after Gabby’s wedding. Congratulations to the happy couple.
